A flag should look right on its pole, move freely and suit the display location. Ordering by pole height alone can leave you with a flag that catches nearby objects, hangs too low or puts unnecessary load on the hardware.
Start with three details: the pole type, the usable height and whether you are buying a national flag or a custom branded flag. Formal UAE flag displays require particular attention to the official specification.
First, measure the pole and the available space
For a fixed outdoor pole, record the height above ground and identify the hoisting system. For a wall-mounted pole, measure its usable length and photograph the bracket. For an indoor stand, check the ceiling height and how far the fabric will hang. A desk pole is a different category and needs a small flag with a compatible sleeve.
Photograph the existing flag, hooks, clips or sleeve. This makes it easier to identify a replacement that fits without changing the hardware.
UAE flags: check the proportion before the size
The official UAE flag has a width twice its height. For example, a 180 × 90 cm flag has this 2:1 proportion. A commercial 150 × 90 cm format has a different proportion and should not be treated as equivalent for a formal national-flag display. See the official UAE flag specifications.
An official outdoor sizing reference
The UAE Cabinet’s 2023 guide provides the following preferred reference sizes for outdoor UAE flagpoles. This is a sizing reference, not confirmation that a particular pole is rated for the flag.

Choose the size and material together
The material options at The Flag Store UAE are 130D knitted polyester, 150D double-sided print, 200D micro polyester and double-sided satin. The 150D double-sided printed flags are imported and available in limited quantities; confirm the country, size and stock before ordering.
Confirm the finished weight and pole compatibility for the selected construction. A size that works with one fabric is not automatically suitable with another.
Match the finish to the pole
- Eyelets: confirm the attachment spacing and compatible clips.
- Sleeve: check the sleeve’s internal width against the pole diameter.
- Rope or toggle: confirm the existing hoisting arrangement.
- Advertising flag: use the artwork and fabric size specified for that particular pole kit.
Dimensions should describe the fabric, rather than the entire assembled display. Ask whether a quoted advertising-flag height includes the pole and base.
Check clearance and installation
Think about where the free edge will travel, rather than only where the flag sits when still. Allow room around walls, signs, doors and landscaping. Have the installer check the pole, mounting and expected wind conditions before increasing the flag size.

Can I use a larger flag on the same pole?
Only after checking the pole manufacturer’s limits and the mounting. A larger flag changes the load and the clearance needed.
